Psoriasis and Fumaric Acid Therapy
Psoriasis in a non-contagious, chronic skin disease that appears in different forms and varying levels of severity. It generally shows up as patches of raised red skin covered by a flaky white build-up. The exact cause is unknown, although many believe it is related to a faulty immune system.
In general, psoriatic skin cells grow and divide too rapidly and are sloughed off quickly. Conventional treatment for psoriasis includes a host of topical agents, light therapy, and oral drugs.
At KNC, we believe that like in most chronic skin disorders, the inner environment plays a significant role in psoriasis. Diet, nutrition, adequate detoxification and stress management are all players in this disease and must be controlled.
In Europe, many dermatologists use a naturally occurring substance called Fumaric Acid. Fumaric acid is found in all human cells and is part of the Citric Acid/Kreb’s cycle. It is believed that a cellular deficiency of fumaric acid is what causes the skin cells to loose their ability to grow and divide normally. This deficiency alters certain immune system controls. By supplementing fumaric acid in oral and topical forms, this deficiency and immune dysfunction are corrected and in over 80% of the cases, the psoriasis significantly improves.
KNC is one of the only North American clinics that uses fumaric acid therapy extensively and has done so for over 12 years. This is an excellent psoriasis treatment that is both safe and effective when utilized correctly.
