Advanced Physical Therapies
Pain can influence the quality of one’s life on both a physical and emotional level. One main reason patients seek the help of doctors is often for help to reduce or eliminate pain.
Some of our most effective pain management therapies involve injections, which by their nature are somewhat invasive. We at Kelowna Naturopathic Clinic (KNC) also provide a group of effective, non-invasive modalities that are administered without the need for needles. Subsequently, children and needle fearful individuals have other options to assist them with their pain producing condition.
Listed below are the Advanced Physical Therapies used at KNC
ElectroBloc
The ElectroBloc is a medical device that produces a particular electrical impulse that is applied through a pair of skin surface electrodes. This electrical current has been found to block nerve conduction thereby producing pain relief. Neuralgia, sympathetic dystrophies, circulatory disturbances and joint pain respond to the ElectroBloc.
Low Level Laser Therapy
Laser is amplified light. This nonsurgical therapy has been shown to reduce pain, promote faster healing, increase bone repair speed, relax muscles, decrease swelling and inflammation, enhance immune cells and reenergize sick and injured cell membranes. Dental, sinus, arthritic and infectious disorders benefit from laser therapy.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)
The use of magnetic fields in medicine began in China thousands of years ago. However, only in the last 20 years have scientists begun to understand the biological effects pulsating magnetic fields of different frequency and intensity have on the human organism. PEMF therapy has been shown to increase cellular oxygen and metabolism, increase cellular energy production and improve circulation. Fractures, sports injuries, inflammatory diseases and neurological problems are some of the indicated conditions treated with PEMF.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound refers to acoustic vibrations above those frequencies, which are not heard by the human ear, that penetrate to the deeper layers of tissue. Ultrasound therapy produces local heat, micro massage, breaks down scar tissue, reduces edema, disrupts tissue deposits and produces a mild analgesic effect. General indications for ultrasound treatment include bursitis, trigger points, scars, strains, tendonitis and osteoarthritis.
Galvanic CurrentÂ
This physical therapy device generates a current that reduces pain and muscular spasm, helps exercise and re-educate muscles, enhances circulation and reduces swelling. A variety of muscular disorders often respond to this treatment.
Hot, Moist Heat Packs
The use of heat in treating the body is almost as old as the history of mankind. Local heat relieves muscle spasm, dilates superficial blood and lymph vessels, increases perspiration and white blood cell activity and sedates the nervous system. Local heat is beneficial to a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders and helps diminish post injection discomfort.
